Larkana medical student allegedly commits suicide

Police send handwritten note for forensic test; father to lodge FIR after autopsy report

HYDERABAD:

A medical student of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBU), Larkana, allegedly committed suicide in her hostel room on Wednesday.

Dr Nosheen Kazmi, a fourth year student, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her hostel room with her feet almost touching a table.

The police said Kazmi's roommate returned to the room after more than two hours and found the room locked from inside. She kept knocking the door but there was no response. The roommate later sneaked from the window and saw Kazmi hanging. A handwritten note has also been recovered from the room.

Larkana SSP Imran Qureshi told the local media that a forensic team collected evidence from the room and the body was later shifted to the university's teaching hospital for the postmortem. He added that the forensic test of the handwritten note will also be performed.

Syed Hidayatullah Kazmi, father, said they are waiting for the postmortem report after which the family will be able to make a comment. He told that he has spoken to the SSP who assured him that the police will lodge an FIR if the family suspected that their daughter's death was a murder.

"I spoke to my daughter over the phone yesterday [Tuesday]. She sounded confident and I didn't find anything to worry about." He told that his wife Dr Munawar is fighting for her life in a hospital in Hyderabad and suddenly he heard the news of his daughter's death in the hospital.

Dr Namrita Chandani, a student of the Bibi Asifa Dental College, Larkana, was also found dead in her hostel room on September 15, 2019. The student's father also referred to the case of Dr Namrita's alleged suicide but he reiterated that it will be early to comment on the cause of her death before the postmortem report.
