PHOTA launches organ donation campaign
The Punjab Human Organ Transplantation Authority (PHOTA) has launched a campaign for the donation of deceased organs.
A special cell of PHOTA has also started registration of the citizens willing to donate their organs. Three offices have been established in Rawalpindi, Multan, and Faisalabad.
Employees of the authority said the decision has been taken on a humanitarian basis, in addition to promoting the practice. ‘Fatwas’ of scholars from different religious factions have also been obtained for this purpose - seeming the initiative in line with Islamic teachings.
All donors will be issued donor cards and certificates, while the donors could donate kidneys, parts of their liver, bone marrow, stem cells, and skin while being alive. After their death, the donors could also donate their whole body, both kidneys, eyes, liver, lungs, pancreas, and corneas.
PHOTA spokesperson said they had received an overwhelming response, with many citizens already contacting them.
