Cop missing for 4 days found dead in K-P's Swabi

A traffic police constable who went missing four days ago was found dead in Swabi district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

Police told The Express Tribune that Constable Ali Akber went missing on November 13 and his brother Mudasar lodged a daily diary report in Atam police post stating that his brother left for duty in the morning but didn’t return.

“Police formed a team to trace his whereabouts but there was no sign of the missing constable,” claimed the official, saying that on Wednesday they were informed that a body had been dumped in the Mera Gajju Khan locality in the jurisdiction of Zaida police station.

“Police reached there and identified him as the missing police Constable Ali Akbar. The body was shifted to Bacha Khan Medical Complex.

An FIR has been registered against the unidentified accused for kidnapping and then killing the police constable under section 302/7ATA.

“We are investigating the case from all angles. It is a clear-cut terrorism case and several investigation teams have been formed to identify and arrest the accused involved in the case,” claimed the police official, saying that the constable had no family feud.

On Wednesday a police constable was gunned down in Bannu district of the province.

Initial investigations suggested that Constable Shah Fahad had been killed due to a personal enmity as the family lodged an FIR against the accused on the complaint of his father Qadir Khan who claimed that they have a land dispute with the accused.

Attacks at police have increased in K-P since August when the US withdrawal from Afghanistan started and after the fall of Kabul to Taliban.

Police was not only targeted in attacks on individuals but also in roadside bomb blasts and its vehicles were am[1]bushed too.

Four policemen lost their lives in a dead ambush in Lakki Marwat district on October 27 including an ASI, a driver and two constables.

On Saturday, two policemen were killed in Bajaur in an IED attack who were on their way to a nearby police post in Raghgan Dam locality.

A policeman was killed on polio duty in Dera Ismail Khan in broad daylight and the attackers managed to snatch his official rifle too. Another policeman was killed in Mathra on the outskirts of Peshawar while returning from polio duty.

Police claim that the recent wave of terrorism is directly linked with the situation in neighboruing Afghanistan as the Taliban’s victory against the US has provided not only the much-needed morale boost but also an increase in manpower after the release of hardened militants from Afghan prisons.
