USAID helps Sindh upgrade education system

It offers students and faculty state-of-the-art classrooms, computer and science labs, a health room, and a library

KARACHI:

Sindh Education Minister, Sardar Ali Shah and US Consul General Mark Stroh on Tuesday inaugurated a new high school building in Karachi. The school building has been constructed under the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Sindh Basic Education Programme (SBEP).

The Government High School Sindhi Jamaat Cooperative Housing Society, Bin Qasim Town in Malir is the 77th school constructed under the programme. It offers students and faculty state-of-the-art classrooms, computer and science labs, a health room, and a library.

Besides Shah and Stroh, USAID Deputy Mission Director, David Young, USAID Director for Sindh & Balochistan Andrew Rebold, Special Assistant to CM Javed Nayab Laghari, School Education & Literacy Department Secretary Ghulam Akbar Laghari, and a large number of the community residents attended the inaugural ceremony.

Shah said, USAID has invested $159.2 million on construction of schools in Sindh under SBEP.

The programme aims at reconstructing schools damaged by the 2010 floods and construct more schools.
