Karachi police form 500-strong anti-riot force

Armed with latest equipment, force will remain alert 24 hours to thwart any untoward situation

On the instructions of Additional IG Karachi Imran Yaqub Minhas and DIG Security and Emergency Services Division Maqsood Ahmed, an anti-riots force comprising 500 police personnel has been formed, a spokesperson of DIG Security and Emergency Services Division said.

The purpose of the force is to deal with any situation related to law and order in the city. The decision to form the force was taken during a meeting with Karachi Additional IG in the chair.

The force will assist local police and other law enforcement agencies in emergencies.

Expressing his views, DIG Security Maqsood Ahmed said that the anti-riots force, comprising SSU commandos and security division personnel, is equipped with state-of-the-art antiriots equipment and they will remain alert round the clock to respond to any emergency.

On the occasion, SSU Commandant Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqui said that the force was fully capable of thwarting the nefarious intentions of miscreants in the city. The force personnel are trained and equipped with the latest equipment.
