LAHORE:

Punjab Law Minister Basharat Raja has said steps have been expedited to end the stay orders prevailing in cases related to the provincial government and progress in this regard would be reviewed every week.

He was addressing a meeting of the Provincial Monitoring Committee chaired by him at the Civil Secretariat.

Secretary Law, Advocate General Punjab, Solicitor Punjab and other officers were also present on the occasion.

The law secretary informed the meeting that at present there were 3,000 stay orders in government cases with the courts across Punjab.

“For speedy disposal of cases, it has been decided to divide them into three categories based on financial matters, property and miscellaneous cases. Punjab solicitor and focal persons will submit a weekly progress report in this regard,” the law minister said.

It was also decided in the meeting that in future, the government civil cases would be filed on the principal seat of the Supreme Court.

The law minister urged all the law officers of Punjab to ensure prompt disposal of cases as per the directives of the prime minister.

He said the chief secretary should also direct all the provincial secretaries to expedite the disposal of the stay orders in cases of their respective departments.

He directed the heads of all departments to liaise closely with the Punjab law department for speedy disposal of stay orders cases and seek its assistance where necessary. He said the move was taken given the difficulties faced by court stay orders in sugar and other important matters of public importance, including illegal land occupations.
