Inmates of Adiala Jail expressed gratitude for being treated to a live screening of the T20 World Cup semi-final cricket match between Pakistan and Australia and congratulated the Men in Green for putting up a good performance despite losing the match.
The match between Pakistan and Australia was watched live by more than 6,000 prisoners at Central Jail Adiala on Thursday.
Special arrangements were made by the jail authorities to screen the match for the inmates, including women, juveniles and patients admitted in the jail’s hospital.
Officials said that the prison administration had made the concession after observing the inmates’ keen interest in the highly expected match and installed LCD screens in barracks to provide them with an evening of entertainment.
The match was punctuated with cheers and whistles on all fours, sixes and brilliant displays with the ball by the Men in Green. Young cricket enthusiasts were especially pumped and enjoyed every moment.
The officials said that security had been beefed up in all barracks to prevent any unrest.
Meanwhile, convicts locked up in high-security cells for committing severe offences did not view the match.
Power supply backup was also arranged as a contingency to counter sudden power breakdowns.
Due to security concerns, prisoners were confined to their barracks ahead of time to keep the situation under control, while separate arrangements were made for the prison staff to watch the match.
