Robbers kill petrol pump cashier

Suspects flee with around Rs30,000 in cash from filling station

Armed robbers killed a cashier of a petrol pump during a broad daylight robbery in the jurisdiction of the Ganjmandi Police Station.

The victim cashier was identified as Basharat Mughal.

According to the police, two unidentified motorcyclists opened fire at Mughal when he attempted to stop them from looting the cash at the petrol station near Leh Bridge in the Ratta Amral area. The victim sustained serious injuries while the suspects fled with the cash.

They said that Mughal succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital by the locals.

SSP (Operations) Rai Mazhar said the investigation was under way from different aspects. He said that the police will soon trace and arrest the suspects.

The fuel pump manager, Muhammad Jameel Khan, said the victim hailed from the Sabz Bagh area of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and was working there for the last 16 years.

The victim had six children and was the sole breadwinner, he said, adding that the suspects fled with around Rs20,000 to Rs30,000 in cash while the CCTV cameras at the pump were not working due to a technical fault.

The manager said that the security guard was not on duty. The victim’s body has been sent to his native town after a post-mortem.

On Tuesday night, a security guard of a bank was gunned down in Dilgiran Bazaar during a robbery in the jurisdiction of the same police station. The suspects had fled with Rs3.4 million in cash.

The police said the robbers fired gunshots while running away and the bullet struck the security guard, Umar, who died while being taken to the hospital.

The police collected the evidence from the bank and obtained CCTV footage of the robbery. Operations SSP Mazhar Iqbal said they have found important evidence from the bank and said they would arrest the suspects soon.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, a 22-year-old labourer, identified as Tariqullah, was killed during a fight in the Dhok Badhal area.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson said the victim was cutting woods in the forest when locals reached there and asked him to stop cutting the trees. When he refused, a fight erupted between both parties and Tariqullah was gunned down.

Alleged female terrorist held

Meanwhile, the Counter-Terrorism Department police arrested an alleged female terrorist from the Quraishianabad area on Girja Road and recovered explosives from her possession.

The suspect was produced in the anti-terrorism court, which sent her on a two-week judicial remand.

The suspect will be presented in court again on November 24.
