Man kills wife over liquor spat

KARACHI:

A man allegedly shot dead his wife for quarreling with him for coming home drunk in the Hussainabad area of Azizabad.

Police have arrested the suspect and recovered the murder weapon, said Azizabad Police Station SHO Farukh Hashmi.

He said that Sabina, 50, was shot dead by her husband Mushtaq. Police reached the spot, arrested the accused, and recovered a TT pistol from his possession. The victim was a mother of four children including two girls.

Police said the accused had a yarn factory several years ago which was sold off due to losses. The accused often came home drunk which led to quarrels in the house.

After midnight on Sunday, he came home drunk, which led to a quarrel between the couple, following which Sabina said she was leaving the house. Mushtaq told her to stop, but she did not, at which, just as she was stepping over the doorstep, he pulled out a pistol and shot her in the back.

Her neighbours called an ambulance and rushed the critically injured Sabina to hospital, however, she died on the way.

The body was later shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for police proceedings.

SHO Hashmi said they are waiting for the heirs to file a report. Further investigation is underway.
