Cop arrested for child’s death in celebratory firing

Police have registered a case on the complaint of the victim’s father

KARACHI:

A six-year-old girl who was severely injured in celebratory firing at a wedding ceremony in Qayyumabad area died during treatment at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Thursday evening.

Police have registered a case on the complaint of the victim’s father against a policeman who opened fire, his two brothers and others.

Defence Police Station SHO Ashraf Jogi said that the suspect who opened fire at the wedding ceremony was identified as Moin, who is a policeman and posted at Soldier Bazaar police station. Police have already rounded up his two brothers Arsalan and Noman.

Meanwhile, Hanif Ahmed, the victim’s father, told The Express Tribune that his daughter was in pre-school and was second among two sisters and a brother.

“Despite the ban on aerial firing at weddings, following this barbaric ritual openly is beyond one’s comprehension,” he said. He demanded that those who opened fire in celebration should be strictly punished so that no other father would lose his children .
