All set for laying foundations of four mega projects

New schemes will generate employment opportunities

The Rawalpindi administration has started preparations for laying foundations of four mega projects for Rawalpindi.

The foundation stone for four projects will be laid between November 25 and December 25. The Rawalpindi commission and the deputy commissioner offices and the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) have started preparations.

Prime Minister Imran Khan and Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar will inaugurate these projects.

The chief minister will lay the foundation of the 23-kilometre-long Expressway project between November 25 and 30, which will cost Rs 4.5 billion and be completed in 18 months.

The Expressway, starting from Pindori Chowk Kalar Syedan will connect hilly tehsils of Rawalpindi, including Kalar Syedan, Kahuta, Kotli Sattiyan, and Murree. The road extending from Lower Topa to Azad Kashmir will also be signal-free.

Further, the foundation of the 20-kilometre-long Leh Expressway and 34-kilometre Ring Road is expected to be laid on December 25 by the prime minister. Both these projects will be completed in 18 months period.

The fourth project will be the installation of the sewerage treatment plant and a 20-kilometre-long underground sewer tunnel.

Prime Minister Imran Khan will lay the foundation of the project worth Rs30 billion while Asian Development Bank (ADB) will bear its cost.

RDA Chairman Tariq Murtaza said all four projects will change the fate of Rawalpindi.

He said the projects will generate over 10,000 employment opportunities at commencement, while after completion, they will generate around 0.25 million employment opportunities.
