KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered allotment of alternative land in Malir within 10 days on a petition seeking possession of land allotted for manufacturing of cancer drugs.

The court warned if no alternative place was provided within 10 days, contempt of court charges would be framed against those responsible.

A two-judge SHC bench, comprising Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput and Justice Muhammad Faisal Kamal Alam, heard the petition of Karachi University's former vice chancellor regarding the occupation of land allotted for the cancer drugs manufacturing laboratory in Malir.

Board of Revenue Member, Shams Soomro and other officials appeared in the court.

Justice Alam remarked: "Where are the senior board of revenue and other officials?" The counsel for Board of Revenue stated that he was taking steps to provide possession of alternative land.

The petitioner's counsel argued that lame excuses were still being made to avoid allocation of the alternative lands. "This is not the first time this statement has been made in court," the petitioner's counsel argued.

The court remarked that it would decide the matter in the light of the Supreme Court's decision.

The court sought an implementation report from the Senior Member Board of Revenue and Land Utilisation Secretary.
