RAWALPINDI:

Punjab Blind Professors and Lectures Association (PBPLA) President Professor Mohammad Tahir has requested Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar to provide differently-abled professors their entitled facilities and allowances that were halted by the quarters concerned.

In his message on the World White Cane Safety Day 2021, the PBPLA president said that these demands had already been presented before former governments repeatedly, but were paid no heed.

“We expect good gestures from the Chief Minister because of his kind heart and positive thinking regarding differently-abled persons,” said Professor Tahir.

He stated that the sum of Rs2,000 as special conveyance allowance was insufficient during the current inflation and requested an increase in the same up to Rs10,000 so that the physically challenged persons may avail comparatively safer transport facilities to commute to their working places.

The PBPLA president noted that all employees working in the special education department were receiving special allowance equal to their full basic pay.

“Even normal people working in that department have also been blessed with this allowance,” he said, and regretted that on the contrary, differently-abled employees have to face greater issues while working in general education.

“The CM has been urged to increase the existing special allowance to the level of full basic pay for all the disabled professors and lecturers,” said Professor Tahir. “This increase will not put any considerable burden on the national exchequer as the special persons are small in number.”

Moreover, the CM has also been requested to issue an order for the grant of pay-protection, including the consideration of service under contract terms as a regular service in special cases to only those disabled professors and lecturers who were selected by PPSC on contract basis and were regularised from time to time during the previous years.
