Youngster falls victim to alleged human traffickers
A youth’s dream of going abroad for a better future met with a tragic end as his family received the body of a 27-year-old, who was beaten to death at the border of Slovenia seven months back.
Umair was sent abroad allegedly by human traffickers disguised as agents. However, his body was flown home in Jhelum the other day after seven months of delay.
The victim’s sister told the media that the agents collectively minted Rs4 million from the family to send her brother abroad.
She said that the family had lodged several complaints with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), however, it turned a deaf ear to the complaints.
Human Rights Vice Chairman Malik Adnan said that the government offered no assistance to the family in bringing back the body and the victim’s family had to sell their land for it.
The victim’s mother appealed to the government to take notice of the incident and bring the agents responsible for her son’s death to justice.
