KARACHI:

The Karachi chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Engr Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has demanded of the government to hold local bodies (LB) elections the soonest and hold fresh census under the 'defacto' formula instead of the 'de jure' one.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday at Idara Noor e Haq in connection with the declaration of the Rebuild Karachi Conference and the issue of fresh census, the JI leader said that under the defecto formula for census, head count is carried out as per the current address of people, while under the dejure system, people are counted as per the permanent address of individuals mentioned in their CNICs.

He demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan to announce date for the local bodies elections. He also strongly demanded direct elections for the seat of mayor of Karachi.

The JI leader also demanded of the government to abolish the infamous quota system, which gives advantage to people of rural and under developed areas, and provide jobs to the youth of Karachi.
