THEKRI WALA:

A man allegedly murdered his colleague after she refused to marry him in the city on Tuesday.

Reportedly, the suspect was a bank’s operations manager who shot dead the woman, a fellow customer service officer, for refusing to marry.

Police seized the body and handed it over to her heirs after postmortem. A case had been registered against the arrested operations manager under the provisions of murder. Mohammad Yousuf, the son of Mohammad Javed, a resident of Rehman City Jhang Road, had taken a stand in the case registered with the police that his sister 30-year-old Alia Javed, daughter of Javed, was working as a customer service officer at the bank after completing her education.

She was allegedly harassed everyday by the operations manager identified as Mansoor Ali, son of Abdul Razzaq, and resident of 74JB, for not being friends with him. On the day of the incident, the suspect told Alia that if she won't marry him, he won't let her marry anyone else.

Later, in a fit of rage, the suspect Mansoor shot and seriously injured Alia who fell at the door of the bank and died on the spot.

The suspected murderer then shut the bank branch. During this time, a large number of citizens gathered and informed the police. Police reached the spot and arrested the operations manager and recovered the murder weapon.

Thikriwala police handed over the body of the deceased to his family after postmortem and registered a case under Section 302 PPC on the statement of the victim’s brother. Further interrogation was under way, police officials said.

According to the police sources, it had been revealed in the confession made to the police by the suspected murderer that he was friends with Alia.

Mansoor said during police interrogation that during this time, the woman made an objectionable video of him for which she had been allegedly blackmailing him for many months. “She said she will send this nasty video to my wife and it will go viral on social media. I am a married man and have three children.”

Violence against women over marriage rows was not uncommon in the province.

On June 7, a young girl, who worked as domestic help, was attacked with acid over the refusal of a marriage proposal in Johar Town.
