Gridlocks choke city arteries

Security arrangements matches, protests and diversions lead to traffic jam

Citizens has to face a great nuisance due to hours-long gridlocks on major streets and arteries of the city due to security arrangements for the National T-20 matches, diversions and protests at various points on Thursday.

This is the second consecutive day that major roads of the provincial hub remained locked during matches at Qaddafi Stadium. The court also expresed its annoyance over the trouble being caused to the citizen.

Mall Road, Jail Road, Canal Road and Ferozepur Road are the major arteries of the city. Any disruption on any of these roads leads to traffic load on the adjacent streets as a large number of vehicles are diverted towards them.

On Thursday throughout the day, the traffic remained disrupted at one or the other major arteries of the city during the day. In the evening, the situation worsened due to the diversions and heightened security arrangements at major roads of the city.

The teams were staying at a private on the Mall Road. The two sides of the roads have been closed between two roundabouts ie Club Chowk to the Governor House Chowk. The traffic from these roundabouts is being diverted to Davis Road, Egerton Road and other roads causing load.
