MOHMAND:

Lady Health Workers (LHW) on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration in Ghalanai, Mohmand tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) demanding payment of their dues of last two years.

They also demanded that they should be paid for polio vaccination campaigns they conducted and deduction from the salaries should be stopped immediately. The protesting LHWs blocked the Peshawar-Bajaur Road for all kind of vehicular traffic and declined to meet Deputy Commissioner for negotiations.

Talking to The Express Tribune an LHW blamed that they had not been paid despite the fact that they participated in the polio vaccination campaigns regularly in harsh weather conditions.

“It is really risky to work in the polio vaccination drives as polio workers have been targeted in the past by militants. Even then we took part in the vaccination drives but now the authorities are not willing to pay us for it,” she blamed, saying that they had not been paid their salaries for the past two years and there were regular deductions from their salaries which was unjust.
