WATCH: Angry lawyer smashes glass inside LHC's copy office

Lawyer resorted to violence on receiving a copy of a case with delay

LAHORE:

A lawyer lost his temper and smashed the counter glass installed at the newly built office of the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) copy office after he received a certified copy [of a case] with delay, on Wednesday.

According to reports, the lawyer has been identified as Majid Jehangir. The lawyer can be seen holding a stick in a video telling the security guard to back-off. The lawyer then used the stick to smash all the glasses fixed above the public counters of the copy branch.

According to the LHC spokesperson, the lawyer has been arrested and a case has been registered against him under the Anti-terrorism Act. The bar council also strongly condemned the incident and suspended the license of the lawyer.

DIG Operations Sohail Chaudhry said that legal action would be taken against the accused, "no matter how influential someone is, he is not above the law".

He added that the security of courts was the first priority in which no negligence would be tolerated.

LHC Chief Justice Amir Bhatti – in a Protection of Lawyers Act Conference yesterday - urged the lawyers to carry pens instead of carrying sticks.
