KARACHI:

A local court remanded three suspects to jail custody on judicial remand in connection with the death of a young man who was allegedly killed by police officials. The deceased had been on the missing persons list before his death.

The suspects, including Naveed Shehzad and police constables Asad and Aurangzeb, were produced before the South judicial magistrate upon the completion of their remand. The investigation officer disclosed to the court that the murder weapon has been recovered.

The IO told the court that the stone from which the victim was killed has been recovered. The court remanded the three suspects, including two policemen, to jail on judicial remand. The court sought a challan from the police at the next hearing.

Police said the suspects abducted Ali Raza on August 12, 2020, and murdered him in Sakran. The victim’s name was also included in the Sindh High Court’s missing persons list. The police resolved the cases on technical basis and other evidence.

Suspect Naveed Shehzad’s number was found in the deceased’s call records and was traced to the location where Raza’s mobile phone was believed to have been switched off. The police traced Shehzad from Pindi Gheb, Attock, Punjab and arrested him.

During interrogation Shehzad confessed to the murder and named the two constables as his accomplices, said the police. They added that the accused policemen were subsequently arrested.

Murder suspect remanded

Meanwhile, the same judicial magistrate remanded a murder suspect to the police for four days. Police produced Ramzan, accused of murdering Tahir Iqbal, 63, before the South judicial magistrate in the Karachi City Courts on Friday.

The court handed over the accused to the police on a four-day physical remand at the request of the investigating officer and sought a progress report from the police at the next hearing.

According to the police, co-accused Khalil was still at large. The complainant said his father ran his own business in Muscat and had reached Pakistan on April 15. However, he could not return due to the lockdown imposed in wake of the coronavirus pandemic. “My father’s body was found near Qayyumabad. He was murdered,” the complainant said. A case is registered in Baloch Colony police station.

Iranian nationals remanded

Meanwhile, another local court sent seven Iranian nationals to the Federal Investigation Agency on a four-day physical remand.

FIA officials produced the illegally residing Iranians before the East judicial magistrate in the Karachi City Courts. The FIA investigation officer told the court that the suspects were rounded up by conducting raids in different parts of the city.

The suspects, in connivance with Pakistani and Iranian agents, managed to produce Pakistani documents. The suspects were preparing to leave Pakistan for Qatar on the basis of the Pakistani travel documents.
