Missing Men: Police given till Aug 17 to recover lawyers

The district police had arrested dozens of lawyers and had booked 34 of them on terrorism charges.

A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Monday took serious notice of the police’s failure to report the whereabouts of two lawyers, who have been missing since July 2011 police crackdown on protesting lawyers in Jhang.


The lawyers were protesting against the Jhang DPO alleging that he was involved in some criminal acts.

The district police had arrested dozens of lawyers and had booked 34 of them on terrorism charges.

They were later released by an anti-terrorism court. Two of the lawyers, Shahadat Ali and Umar Hayat, were not released and have not been traced till date.

The police officers concerned have told the court that they did not have any clue to the missing lawyers’ whereabouts.

Justice Azmat Saeed on Monday gave the police till August 17 to recover the advocates and present them in court.
