10 persons taken into custody on kidnapping charges

The Murree police on Thursday recovered an abducted newly married man and arrested 10 persons on kidnapping charges.

The newly married man, Nauman, who had contracted a love marriage, was kidnapped by members of the girl stormed the judicial complex Jheka Gali from the court premises in Murree after he along with his bride showed up for the court hearing, seeking the quashment on an FIR, lodged by the girl’s family. The police had foiled their attempt to kidnap the girl.

The couple had solemnised a freewill marriage, however, the girl’s family was against it and had lodged a kidnapping case.

Police said that the kidnapped man was recovered from Kajot. The police said that at least 10 people have been taken into custody for kidnapping the bridegroom.

The police have registered a case against the kidnappers by inserting sections of anti-terrorism and kidnapping.

The 14-year-old daughter of a former councillor had absconded with Nauman and later married him, after which her family had lodged a complaint of her kidnapping with the Murree police. The couple had sought cancellation of the kidnapping case registered by the girl’s family against her ‘bridegroom’.

The police said the teenager had submitted an affidavit in an Islamabad court after tying the knot with Nauman. The couple had come to the court of Murree Civil Judge Ahmed Saeed Saim on Wednesday to record their statement for the dismissal of the kidnapping FIR registered against the husband.

As soon as they arrived, over 40 people from the girl’s family stormed the court to kidnap the couple.

Meanwhile, in a video message of the girl, Qurat-ul-Ain, has said that she has tied the knot with Nauman of her free will and she had not been kidnapped, as alleged by her family.

She said that she would have been killed by her family members if the police did not intervene during their court appearance. She thanked the Murree police for saving her life.

Police said that the girl has been moved to Darul Aman for security reasons.

Meanwhile, Rawalpindi City Police Officer Muhammad Ahsan Younis and SSP (Operations) Rai Mazhar Iqal also visited Murree and met with Nauman.

SSP Kamran Amir said that a case has been registered against the kidnappers under sections of terrorism and kidnapping.

He said that 10 suspects, Abdul Manan, Abdul Matin, Zayab, Hamid, Qamar Zaman, Shahzeb, Asif, Naseer, Adnan and Nasir, have been taken into custody.

SP said that the suspects will be presented in the court with concrete evidence. CPO Younis has also said no one can be allowed to take the law into hands.
