ISLAMABAD:

The federal government has scrapped the Polyclinic hospital extension project and decided to build two seperate health facilities as an alternate.

According to a memorandum issued by the health ministry, a health facility named Jinnah Hospital was built on land in Sector G-11/3, which had earlier been allocated to expand Polyclinic.

Sources said that the project concept (PC-1) of the new health facility will be submitted to the Central Working Development Party (CDWP) for approval.

Initially, Jinnah Hospital will have 300 beds which will be expanded to 500 beds.

The hospital is estimated to cost about Rs 10 billion.

The health ministry memorandum also said that a second 200-bed health facility named Allama Iqbal Hospital will also be constructed in Islamabad.

According to health authorities, the contract will be handed over to the Punjab Infrastructure Development Authority (IDAP) instead of the Public Works Department (PWD) to expedite construction work in both hospitals.
