RAWALPINDI:

The customs officials and National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) recovered 66 kilogrammes (kgs) heroin in two separate incidents, but the suspects couldn’t be arrested in either case.

In the first incident, the staff of customs intelligence had an exchange of fire with drug peddlers after which they fled, abandoning 56kgs of drugs in the truck.

The customs officials said they had received a tip-off that a huge cache of heroin was being smuggled from KP to Lahore. A suspicious truck was signaled to stop, but it ignored the order. The customs officials gave chase and, after an exchange of fire, the suspects abandoned the truck and fled.
