‘Robber, passerby shot, injured in encounter’

One of the youth was shifted to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital with a gunshot wound to his chest

KARACHI:

Two people were shot and injured in an alleged encounter near a kebab shop in Gurumandir area on Sunday.

According to rescue workers, a youngster, identified as Aftab, 25, was brought to them by the police in injured condition. The youth was shifted to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Meanwhile, another gunshot victim, identified as Muhammad Anis, 50, was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre by a passerby on a motorcycle.

Quoting Street Crime In-Charge Head Constable Khurram, a spokesperson for the East district police said that two suspected robbers were looting a family near the kebab shop when the police were alerted to the commotion.

The police said the suspects opened fire at the cops who arrived at the scene and one of the alleged robbers was injured by the police's retaliatory fire. The spokesperson added that the wounded suspect was arrested while his accomplice managed to escape.

Anis told rescue workers he was passing by the site on his motorcycle when he was hit by a bullet in his shoulder and another motorcyclist passing by picked him from the ground and shifted him to the hospital.
