KARACHI:

The city braved extremely warm and humid weather on Thursday when mercury shot up, close to 40 degrees centigrade.

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature was recorded at 39.4 degree Celsius while humidity level was 43 per cent. The weather is likely to improve gradually from Friday (today).

Due to low air pressure in Indian Gujarat, the possibility of rains has diminished.

Wednesday night's lowest temperature was the highest night-time temperature recorded so far, making the weather conditions extremely humid on Thursday, particularly in the morning hours.

Closure of sea breeze and the intrusion of gusts of desert winds from Balochistan made the weather extremely warm. Intensity of the heat was felt more than the actual temperature. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature was recorded at 30.5 on Thursday night.

However, Thursday was the last day of the partial heatwave. The weather will improve gradually from today (Friday), but the conditions are expected to remain warm and humid for next two days until the sea breeze is normal and low air pressure subsides.

Today (Friday) the maximum mercury is likely to be recorded in the range between 35 and 37 degrees while on Saturday, the temperature will remain between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius.
