LAHORE:

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has handed over the command of Central Punjab to former premier Raja Pervez Ashraf, who interestingly was tasked with the very responsibility of proposing names of suitable candidates for the three positions that fell vacant in May.

The three key positions of president and general and information secretaries of Central Punjab fell vacant after resignations of Qamar Zaman Kaira (president), Chaudhry Manzoor (general secretary) and Hassan Murtaza (information secretary) were sought by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari over PP-84 by election debacle, wherein party faced a humiliating defeat.

Ashraf was then made the chief organiser of the region and was asked to propose the names of suitable candidates.

He held meetings with several aspiring leaders and even vowed to bring back the old guards.
Speculations started doing rounds that Ashraf himself was eyeing the top slot but many party stalwarts considering that he had been a former premier and a chief organiser, rubbished the rumours.
