Nine die in Punjab road crashes

At least nine people were killed in 871 Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) in all 36 districts of Punjab during the past 24 hours.

Reportedly, as many as 940 persons suffered injuries in the road traffic crashes across the province.

Out of the total injured victims, 560 people were seriously injured who were shifted to different hospitals across the province whereas, 380 minor injured victims were treated at the incident site. The majority of road crashes, around 66 per cent, involved motorcycles.

Furthermore, the analysis showed that 393 drivers, 48 underage drivers, 114 pedestrians and 442 passengers were among the victims of these road traffic crashes. The statistics showed that 242 RTCs were reported in Lahore, which affected 246 persons, placing the provincial capital at the top of the list followed by 80 in Faisalabad with 91 victims, and Multan at third with 57 RTCs and 60 victims.

The details further revealed that 949 victims were affected by road traffic crashes including 786 male & 163 female victims.

The age group of the victims showed that 174 persons were under 18 years of age, 470 were between 18 and 40 years and rest of the 305 victims were reported to be above 40 years of age.

According to the data, 738 motorcycles, 120 auto rickshaws, 96 motorcars, 31 vans, 10 passenger buses, and 29 trucks were involved in aforesaid road traffic accidents.

A total of 86 other types of auto vehicles and slow moving carts were also involved in these road crashes.
