DERA GHAZI KHAN: The Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) chief executive suspended an SDO and line superintendent on negligence charges on Saturday.

According to Mepco officials, one line man was electrocuted on duty two days ago and several locals protested outside Mepco offices in the district.  A lineman Saleem was electrocuted during duty in block 34 two days ago. Saleem was working on repairing an electricity pole for the restoration of power supply to three residential colonies when he was electrocuted. Mepco chief executive Ghuftar took notice of the incident and has suspended the SDO second division Sheikh Sheraz and Line Superintendent Mohib Jahanian  on charge of negligence for failing to provide a safe environment to line man. Several officials said that the suspended Mepco Dera Ghazi Khan executive engineer had directed to remove earth wires of electricity poles to save on line losses but this had not been done.
