129 Afghan refugees arrested in Peshawar

During a celebration for Youm-e-Istehsal which resulted in a verbal conflict that led to violent skirmishes

PESHAWAR:

Peshawar police apprehended at least 129 Afghan refugees on Friday in connection with hurling stones at police, damaging public property and disruption of public order.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Afghan refugees were celebrating Youm-e-Istehsal in Phase three Square which disrupted the traffic flow and resulted in a verbal conflict that led to violent skirmishes between locals and Afghan nationals due to which a few vehicles got damaged and some persons also sustained injuries.

The police were immediately called in to control the situation and they arrested 26 refugees on the spot. Later, raids were also conducted in different adjoining areas to nab others.

The police has arrested 129 Afghan refugees so far who took part in the violent protest and also booked 26 persons in the case.

Police sources said, “We are taking the case seriously and if the arrested refugees are convicted then they will be deported back to Afghanistan.”
