Pakistani expats in Dubai cheer as Burj Khalifa dazzles in national colours

The world's tallest building, Burj Khalifa, in Dubai was lit up with the Pakistani national flag on Saturday as expats across the world celebrated the country’s 75th Independence Day.

Earlier in the day, the Pakistani flag was also raised at Pakistan’s embassy in Abu Dhabi and the consulate general in Dubai to mark the occasion, The National reported.

Abu Dhabi iconic landmarks were also light up in the colours of the Pakistan flag.

Dubai has a sizeable Pakistani community, many of whom cheered as the world's tallest skyscraper was dazzled with the national flag.

Officials in both emirates made speeches to celebrate when British colonial rule ended and Pakistan became a sovereign nation on August 14, 1947.

More than a million Pakistani citizens call the UAE their home.

The Emirates has the world's second-largest Pakistani resident population, behind Saudi Arabia.

UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan sent a message of congratulations to his Pakistani counterpart Arif Alvi on his country's Independence Day.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, vice president and ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, crown prince of Abu Dhabi, echoed the similar sentiments in their messages of felicitations.
