KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court issued notice to the special public prosecutor of the Sindh Rangers on Wednesday, seeking his reply on the petition filed by convicts Ubaid alias K2, Faisal alias Mota, Farhan Shabbir and nine others.

A two-member bench comprising Justice KK Agha and Justice Irshad Ali Shah heard the plea of the 11 petitioners seeking acquittal from their conviction in the case pertaining to weapons found at Muttahida Qaumi Movement headquarters Nine Zero. Observing that Ubaid alias K2 had appeared before the court without a counsel, the bench asked whether Ubaid wanted the court to appoint a counsel for him on the state's expense.

The petitioner replied that he could not afford legal counsel at present and requested time from the court so he may hire a lawyer. He asked the court to fix a later date for the court.

Ubaid also requested the court to allow him a medical checkup, which the court accepted. The bench sought the Ranger's prosecutor's reply and adjourned the hearing.
