Tributes paid to martyred policemen

Special ceremonies were held to mark Police Martyrs' Day all over Sindh, including Karachi.
Sindh IG Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar paid homage to the martyrs at the Central Police Office and offered Fateha. He said over 2,350 policemen had embraced martyrdom in the line of duty.
In a statement, Mahar Sindh said these officers lost their lives while fighting terrorism and suppressing crime.
"The sacrifices of the brave sons of Sindh Police paid off in the form of restoration of peace in the province and protection of the people." He added 38 Sindh police officers and soldiers were martyred while on duty during the coronavirus outbreak.
"Every officer and young man of Sindh Police is working hard for the protection of life and property of the people, and for the sake of peace, so that the future of our coming generations can be secured."
East DIG Saqib Ismail Memon laid a wreath at the memorial and offered Fateha at Saudabad Headquarters. East DIG called on the families of martyrs at their homes. He also visited the graves of martyred officers and laid down flowers.
A Quran recitation was held at Police Station Site A. Site SDPO Jahan Khan Niazi, Site SHO Syed Zafar Ali Shah, Site B SHO Inspector Zawar Hussain, Office Superintendent Muhammad Asim, DIB Kemari In charge Syed Rashid Hussain Shah were present, along with the families of slain officers and other police personnel.
Video messages were also released by well-known actors and cricketers for Police Martyrs' Day. Cricketer Shahid Afridi said that in the war against terrorism, soldiers sacrificed their lives. Singer Shehzad Roy said it was a day to remember the martyrs of the police. "We have lived our lives in peace because policemen are sacrificing their lives outside their homes. I salute all the police officers and their families who protect the whole country. There will come a time when no mother will be separated from her son," he said in an emotional message.
Actress Neelam Munirka paid heartfelt tributes to all the martyrs of the police and their families. She said officers and personnel sacrificed their lives for the protection of the country and nation. Munirka saluted all the martyrs of the police and their families. "Their sacrifices will never be in vain."
Actor Aijaz Aslam thanked the martyrs of the police and said they enabled citizens to lead a peaceful existence. Cricketer Fawad Alam said the entire nation paid homage to those officers slain in the line of duty.
SSU commandoes salute martyrs
Meanwhile, a function was held at the SSU headquarters in which senior officers of the Security and Emergency Services Division participated to pay homage to martyrs of the police force. A contingent of SSU commandos paid tribute to the deceased officers.
SSU Commandant Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqui, SPSSU Iram Awan, SPSSU Azhar Mughal and Choukandi SP Dr Najeeb offered fateha and laid floral wreaths at the memorial of martyrs.
SSU Commandant Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqui met the families of martyrs at SSU headquarters and distributed gifts among them.
Echoing the views of so many others, the commandant said the day was to pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives while performing duties. "This day makes the families of the martyrs realise that the department will always stand by them."

Security and Emergency Services DIG Division Maqsood Ahmed, who is in isolation due to coronavirus, said the law and order situation in Sindh, especially Karachi, had improved a lot and peace is growing in the province.
"In view of this fact, we must not forget the sacrifices of martyrs as they sacrificed their lives to restore peace in the city.
CM pays tribute
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah paid rich tribute to the sacrifice of 2,355 policemen who lost their lives in the line of duty. He said they were the heroes of the province and their sacrifices led to the elimination of terrorism and restoration of peace.
"Our police have always been at the forefront of fighting against terrorism, criminality and natural calamities," he said. The CM added that 38 policemen, while performing duties at hospitals as well as Covid-19 testing and vaccination centers, also lost their valuable lives.
The CM said that keeping in view the services of Sindh police and their dedication/commitment to the people of the province, he has incentivised the force with the best salary packages and other benefits. "My government will keep looking after the families of the shaheed policemen for which an appropriate mechanism has been evolved," he said.
He saluted the martyred policemen and offered fateha for them.
