South Zone cops don hazmat suits on duty

Officials deployed at security checkpoints also checked citizens’ vaccination certificates

KARACHI:

Citizens were pleasantly surprised to see the policemen deployed at security checkpoints in South Zone in hazmat suits to save them from the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) infection.

Police officials in hazmat suits were manning the checkpoints to see if the commuters were out of home for a genuine reason or simple loitering about.

They were sending home people who could not give a sound reason for being out during the lockdown.

The police South Zone comprises of Clifton, Defence, Darakhshan, Saddar, Frere, PIDC and other surrounding areas. Officers deployed at security checkpoints also checked citizens' vaccination certificates and those who left their homes unnecessarily were discouraged.

In particular, vehicles and rickshaws carrying more than the capacity were also stopped. People traveling in the South Zone in violation of SOPs were warned and allowed to go.

Meanwhile, in some other areas of the city, complaints were rife that police were allowing some people to open shops, while forcing others to shut down.
