Prices of vegetables go up ahead of Eid

Development comes amid alleged negligence of administration, price control magistrates.

With the Eidul Azha approaching fast, the prices of fruits and vegetables have spiked high in Jhelum because of the alleged negligence of the administration and price control magistrates.

The shopkeepers are fearlessly selling and vegetables at the prices of their choice. No vendor is following the official price lists issued by the market committee. Most vendors do not even have a price list to begin with.

Meanwhile, the officers stationed across the district consider also don’t step out of their offices to assess the situation in the market.

The well-off people are still purchasing the food items at high rates, however, it’s only the middle-class people or wage earners that are going through a tough time.

A resident, Kashan Hussain, said that there is no shortage of vegetables or fruits in the city but its happening all just because of the negligence of the local administration.

The citizens have demanded the Punjab Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, and Rawalpindi Commissioner to deploy honest officers to assess the situation and bring the high rates back to the official price list.
