Police to strictly monitor hides collection

2,000 cops will be deployed in 12 sectors of city

RAWALPINDI:

Ahead of Eidul Azha, Rawalpindi police have formulated a comprehensive plan to deal with the reports of the collection of animal hides by banned organisations. The police will divide the city into 12 sectors and strictly monitor the collection of animal hides.

A police official said that cases would be registered against organisations for collecting hides without a non-objection certificate (NOC). He added that the Punjab government has banned 96 outfits this year from collecting sacrificial animal hides.

Moreover, it has been made mandatory for registered organisations to obtain NOC from the local administration. The police official said that the collection of hides without NOC would be illegal and they would prosecute violators as per law. Rawalpindi police have drawn up a comprehensive plan to prevent the illegal practice in the district, he said.

According to the plan, SHOs of all police stations will be provided with lists of banned outfits and they would be instructed to monitor the leaders and activists of banned parties within their respective jurisdictions. Similarly, there would be a ban on setting up camps for the collection of animal hides while the special branch personnel will be deployed in plain clothes at the places where mass sacrifice would take place.

The special branch officials would immediately inform the SHO in case of spotting any violation.

The police official told The Express Tribune that over 2,000 police personnel would be deployed on the occasion of Eidul Azha to maintain law and order and monitor the skin collection.

He added people associated with the businesses are also being issued directives to inquire the skin sellers about their organisations and refuse to purchase it if they are linked with any banned outfit.

The police would also check the identity documents of the people collecting hides going door-to-door. The policemen would also be deployed in markets where the sale and purchase of animal hides take place, including Jamia Masjid Road, Bani Market, Bagh Sardar, and Pul-e-Shah Nazar.
