DHA, CBC get contempt notices in rainwater drainage case

Defence and Clifton localities got flooded in the last monsoon season

The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued on Tuesday contempt of court notices to Defence Housing Authority (DHA) administrator and Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) chief executive officer (CEO) over failure to submit report about rainwater drainage arrangements for the upcoming monsoon season .

A two-member bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqi and Justice Agha Faisal, was hearing the contempt of court plea against DHA and CBC.

At the outset of the hearing, the petitioner's counsel maintained that the entire DHA and Clifton was inundated with rainwater during the last monsoon and they fear that same would happen this year as well.

He claimed that DHA and CBC were not providing the plan for draining the rainwater in this monsoon despite the judicial orders.

At this, the court sought reports from the national and provincial disaster management authorities regarding the arrangements made for dealing with rainwater in monsoon season.

It issued contempt of court notices to DHA administrator and CBC CEO, seeking their replies on it by July 10.
