Actor Ali Rehman Khan, after attending the grand finale and award ceremony of National Amateur Film Festival (NASFF) 2021 in Islamabad on June 26, 2021, shared his two cents on the event on his social media.

Taking to Instagram, Khan shared a photo of himself from the red carpet of the ceremony with a caption reading, “So proud of our young filmmakers from colleges across the country for submitting such incredible short films at the National Amateur Short Film Festival.”

He went on to congratulate ISPR for “leading the way and organising such a massive film festival and investing in the future of the Pakistani film and television industry.”

Khan believes NASFF is precisely the kind of platform young filmmakers need in Pakistan today, provided it showcases their talents to and helps them get recognition from notable figures of the entertainment fraternity.

It also helps enhance their “immense abilities to tell meaningful stories.” He went on to assert that he is “excited to see young kids reinvigorate the film and drama industry in the near future, and I can’t wait to work with them!”

In his address at the festival, Prime Minister Imran Khan asked Pakistani filmmakers to focus on original content and adopt new approaches. He also urged the youth to explore new avenues in different fields of life and try something fresh instead copying “the trodden path”.

“New starters in the film making must explore the vast variety and rich diversity of climate, culture and civilisation of the motherland,” he said. Khan went on to note that during the 70s, the country was producing quality content but it all went downhill when filmmakers started copying Bollywood.

“Because of this adoption of alien culture, our film industry lost is originality,” he regretted. “Vulgarity started from Hollywood, came to Bollywood and then that kind of culture was promoted here… According to my experience of the world, only originality sells — the copy has no value,” added the premier.
