Kangana Ranaut wants India to be called 'Bharat', says former is a 'slave name'
Kangana Ranaut is back in the news, of course. On Tuesday, the Manikarnika: the Rani of Jhansi star called for the abolition of the name 'India' and said that the country should revert to being called 'Bharat' instead.
She described 'India' as being a 'slave name' and posted a series of comments on social media regarding the same, reported Hindustan Times. Ranaut took to her Koo account and wrote that she believes the country cannot progress if it remains a 'cheap copy' of the Western world.
The actor has lately taken to using Koo – an Indian social media platform – as she has permanently been suspended from using Twitter after she was found to be in violation of the websites hate speech policy.
"India can only rise if it’s rooted in its ancient spirituality and wisdom, that is the soul of our great civilisation,” Ranaut wrote in the post. “The world will look up to us and we will emerge as a world leader if we go higher in urban growth but not be a cheap copy of western world and remain deeply rooted in Vedas, Geeta and Yoga. Can we please change this slave name India back to Bharat?" she asked.
Ranaut then shared a screenshot of her post as a story on Instagram.
