A Pakistan Army soldier embraced martyrdom when terrorists opened fire from Afghanistan across the international border on a military post in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s (K-P) North Waziristan district, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Saturday.

The military’s media wing said Pakistan Army troops responded in a befitting manner. “However, during the exchange of fire, Sepoy Umar Daraz, age 32 years, resident of Jhang, received a bullet injury and embraced shahadat (martyrdom),” it added.

Pakistan has consistently asked Afghanistan to ensure effective management and control on their side of the border.

“Pakistan strongly condemns the continuous use of Afghan soil by terrorists for activities against Pakistan,” the ISPR said.

In a similar attack earlier this month, an army soldier sustained injuries in K-P’s Bajaur district.

On May 5, at least four personnel of the Frontier Corps (FC) were martyred while six others were injured in a terrorist attack in Balochistan's Zhob district.

The FC troopers were part of a fencing party working on the Pak-Afghan border when they came under attack from Afghanistan.

"[The attack took place] today during [a] fencing activity in Manzakai sector, district Zhob, Balochistan along [the] Pak-Afghan border," said the ISPR.

"Terrorists from across Afghanistan ambushed FC troops moving for fencing. 4 FC soldiers embraced shahadat while 6 got injured. FC troops responded promptly," the communique added.
