Nurses irked over non-inclusion in Covid reparation package

Brave nursing officers who died on duty during the pandemic in various hospitals were totally ignored

Professional Nursing Association (PNA) General Secretary Anwar Sultana on Tuesday lambasted the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government over non-inclusion of nurses in the coronavirus compensation package.

Terming it as gross injustice, Sultana said, “The non-inclusion of nurses from the government's compensation package meant for deceased frontline healthcare workers battling coronavirus berates the selfless sacrifices made by the paramedics.”

Earlier, K-P Chief Minister Mahmood Khan had distributed cheques among the bereaved families of health workers who were died of Covid-19, with each family receiving Rs7 million as compensation.

The PNA secretary lamented that the brave nursing officers who died on duty during the pandemic in various hospitals were totally ignored.

In a statement released, she named a few nurses who lost their lives to coronavirus including Musarat Dilbar, posted at Kohat Liaquat Hospital, Yasmeen Awal Khan posted at Rubina City Hospital, Gulshan Shakir posted at Public Health School Hayatabad, Shahnaz posted at DHQ Hospital Abbottabad and Nadia posted at HMC Peshawar.

She added that nurses are also entitled to the stimulus checks but their exclusion from the government's compensation package berated their selfless sacrifices.
