3 ‘extortionists’ arrested

The SIU along with the Central Investigation Agency’s Karachi branch managed to trace the suspects

KARACHI:

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) claimed on Sunday to have arrested three extortionists from Liaquatabad area of the city.

According to SIU SP Haider Raza, the suspects came to the house of Afzal Seth, a meat merchant and real estate investor and demanded Rs5 million in extortion money. They opened aerial fire to intimidate the family, said the SP, adding that the incident’s video went viral on social media and a case was lodged at Liaquatabad Police Station.

The SIU along with the Central Investigation Agency’s Karachi branch managed to trace the suspects and found weapons in their possession, said the SP, adding that a weapons case was subsequently lodged against the trio at the SIU Police Station. The suspects, Wasim Danish, Naveed Billa, and Suleman Makhi, and have confessed to committing several robberies.
