Motorists using LED, high beam lights to be prosecuted

1,852 motorists have faced action during the year for using HID/LED lights

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) will takes action against vehicle drivers using high beam lights and light-emitting diodes (LED), especially after dark.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Farrukh Rasheed said the campaign against LED and high beam lights has been initiated on Islamabad police chief Qazi Jamil ul Rehman’s directives to ensure a safe road environment in the city and reduce accidents.

Giving details, the SSP said 1,852 motorists have faced action during the year for using HID/LED lights and the lights were impounded.

Special squads have been constituted to check the use of LED/HID by motorists. Police pickets at important boulevards including Expressway, Srinagar highway (Kashmir Highway), Margalla Road, IJP Road, Murree Road, 7th Avenue and 9th Avenue.

Night shift in-charges will lead the latest campaign while the education wing will create awareness among the people about risks involved in using these lights.

The ITP’s FM Radio 92.4 will broadcast special programmes informing people about the risks involved in using these lights.

The SSP (Traffic) has appealed to citizens to cooperate with the campaign and promote a safe road environment in the city. AP
