ISLAMABAD:

Renowned Polish mountaineer Andrzej Leszek Bargiel said that he plans to ski down Laila peak (6,096m) situated in Shigar Valley Baltistan, Pakistan, adding that it is an outstanding and truly mesmerizing mountain.

He said this during a briefing session with Alpine Club of Pakistan Secretary Karrar Haidri on Wednesday.

Bargiel commented that Pakistan is now safe after the struggle against terrorism. “It is a beautiful and peaceful country with caring and loving people, I have been visiting for last many years,” he added. At the end of the briefing session, Haidri wished Bargiel and his team good luck on behalf of members of the club and the people of Pakistan.

Bargiel was born on April 18, 1988, in Rabka, Poland and is a mountaineer, backcountry skier, mountain runner and climber. Raised in Letownia, he is a three-time Polish ski mountaineering champion and held third place in the overall World Cup.

In 2018, Bargiel made history by being the first person to ski down the summit of K2 without any extra oxygen supply. He is the only man who has managed to ski from the summit of the iconic K2 to its base camp. The idea to ski down K2 came to me when I had a glimpse of it during the first successful ski descent of Broad Peak in 2015,” he remarked.
