MQM-P calls for talks between ministers, religious scholars

KARACHI:

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan's (MQM-P's) Rabita Committee has called for negotiations between federal ministers and religious scholars on the demand for the expulsion of the French ambassador from the country and protests and riots witnessed in connection with it.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Rabita Committee requested Prime Minister Imran Khan for the negotiations and urged the protesters not to put Pakistan and its citizens in a difficult situation, especially during Ramazan, for ill deeds committed in another country.

In its statement, the Rabita Committee stated that respect for Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was one of the basic pillars of faith and the international community needed to ensure global peace by banning actions that were against Islam and disrespected the prophet.

The disrespectful act has enraged over one billion Muslims across the world, the statement said.

Besides, the Rabita Committee suggested that the government, in collaboration with the United Nations, devised a strategy for declaring the disrespect of Islam and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) a crime internationally. The government may send delegations to other Muslim countries for the purpose, the committee recommended, adding that the government should also provide financial aid to families affected by the recent riots.
