Gilgit Jail: CM orders inquiry into firing incident
FCdeployed at the jail opened aerial firing to control the prisoners, who pelted stones at the FC officials
GILGIT:
Gilgit Baltistan (G-B) Chief Minister Mehdi Shah has ordered an inquiry into the shooting incident which took place in Gilgit jail on Wednesday.
The police said there were no injuries in the incident. However, it created panic in the city, which has a history of sectarian violence.
The officials of Frontier Constabulary (FC) deployed at the jail opened aerial firing to control the prisoners, who pelted stones at the FC officials.
“The FC officials were trying to send the prisoners back to their barracks after iftari when they resisted and started throwing stones at the officials,” said the police.
“The chief minister has taken notice of the incident and has ordered an inquiry into the matter,” said Sajjadul Haq, the chief minister’s spokesperson.
The deputy commissioner also reached the spot soon after the firing incident to overcome the situation.
Meanwhile, the district administration has also fixed at least four mobile phone jammers inside the jail to prevent any untoward situation. These jammers will block signals of all cellular service companies in the jail.
