K-P police arrest two more suspects in murder of ATC judge, family

Cops also seize vehicle used in attack on Aftab Afridi and his family members

Making significant progress in the murder case of Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Aftab Afridi and his family members, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police arrested two more accused and also recovered the vehicle used in the heinous crime, officials said on Wednesday.

The Swat ATC judge, his wife Bibi Zainab, daughter-in-law Kiran and three-year-old grandson Muhammad Sanan were gunned down Sunday evening on the Peshawar Motorway near Ambar Interchange, Swabi. His driver and guard sustained serious injuries.

Talking to The Express Tribune, an official of the Swabi police said Justice Afridi was on his way to Islamabad when his vehicle came under attack. “The judge, his wife and two children were killed on the spot while his driver and guard suffered serious injuries.”

After the latest arrests, the total number of suspects in police custody has reached 10 as earlier, eight of them were nabbed in a joint operation in several areas of Peshawar and Khyber.

Abdul Majeed, son of the slain judge, had lodged an FIR against six know and four unknown people at a police station in Lahore.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) K-P Sanaullah Abbasi formed a committee headed by Regional Police Officer Mardan to investigate the case.

DPO Swabi Muhammad Shoaib Khan and his team during the investigation arrested accused Aziz Khan alias Azizo and Dawood. Police also recovered a vehicle used in the incident.

He said that the accused have given all the facts about the incident during interrogation. "The names of the remaining accused are being kept secret and efforts are being made to arrest them," he added.
