Official stresses talks with businessmen

Exporters in meeting discussed issues of Pak-Afghan trade

PESHAWAR:

The government should ensure consultation with business community while formulating new Pak-Afghan trade policy in line with modern requirements to enhance bilateral trade, said FPCCI Central Standing Committee on Trade Convener Shahid Hussain Shinwari.

“Afghanistan is using Pakistan’s route for transit trade,” he said in a meeting on Saturday.

“Similarly, Afghanistan should allow Pakistan to use its route to trade with Central Asian states so that exports and trade ties with Central Asian Republics could be improved.”

Exporters in the meeting discussed issues of Pak-Afghan trade and appreciated the efforts. Addressing the gathering, Shinwari said that policies formulated years ago could not work at present and that was why annual exports fell from near Rs3 billion to less than Rs1 billion.

“The government needs time to formulate a new policy for Pak-Afghan trade and include the advice of stakeholders and businessmen,” he said.
