A fire erupted in the three-storey building of a furniture factory in Liaquatabad at 5.30am on Tuesday. Most items inside the building were reduced to ash as a result of the fire.
The police, rescue workers and fire officials reached the spot after being informed of the incident.
However, further assistance had to be sought from the fire department as the intensity of the fire continued to increase.
Meanwhile, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board managing director imposed an emergency at the Sakhi Hasan hydrant and dispatched water tankers to assist with the firefighting operation.

It took firefighters eight fire tenders and five hours to douse the flames.
According to fire department officials, the affected building is located in a congested area with narrow lanes, which posed difficulties in the way of fire tenders and water tankers from reaching the site of the incident.
Chief fire officer Mobin Ahmed told The Express Tribune that the fire affected the building's basement and second floor, while the ground and first floor remained unaffected.
He said an investigation had been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
According to a Rangers spokesperson, the paramilitary force and rescue workers also assisted in extinguishing the fire.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
