Labourer killed, 10 others injured in factory collapse

Most victims hail from rural Sindh, Punjab, say police

A labourer was killed and 10 others were injured when a portion of a factory's building in Sindh Industrial and Trading Estate, in the limits of SITE B Section Police Station, collapsed on Monday.

The collapse created a panic inside the factory, while workers outside the building began efforts to rescue those present inside. Later, rescue workers, the police and Rangers reached the site and retrieved the victims.

The victims were shifted to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital, where doctors declared one of the labourers, 30-year-old Babar, dead upon arrival.

Of the ten injured, nine were identified as Khalid Din, 30, Siddiqi, 40, Khuda Bakhsh, 32, Hanif, 42, Bashir, 24, Mitho, 40, Mir Ghazi, 28, Diyar Hassan, 23, and Raja Yaqoob, 25. One of the injured remained unidentified till the filing of this report.

The police said most of the victims hailed from rural Sindh and Punjab.

According to the cops, labourers inside the factory were on a break and resting when a portion of the building collapsed and the generator was also switched on at the time.

Further investigations into the matter are underway.
